In our house Easter is the celebration of Jesus' work on the cross and our salvation but it is also a time for lots of fun which includes things like the Easter bunny and all of the "Bling of Spring".
Today we kicked off the season with an Egg themed day. We began our day with a Bible lesson from the site Ministry- to- Children.com. It discussed the Mystery of the Holy Spirit and used an Egg as the object lesson . There were fun activities included and a fill in the blank worksheet. You can find it here:

In science we are focusing on The Scientific Method. This is perfect because I was able to select a spring / egg themed experiment that asked the kids to use it. Today we experimented with making egg- shell geodes.
To set us up for experimenting we first stopped at www.magickeys.com for a short( I mean short) story about the "Bitaba Bird" a fictional creature.

That story lead to a section on Geodes (same site)

Then we moved on to NeoKids for a short video on crystal formation - here:

We learned a little about how geodes and crystals were formed and then pulled out a few geodes of our own to look at.
A geode we happened to have gotten from a trip to GA two years ago |
Then the experimentation began.....
I should note that I made my own worksheets for the kids to fill in using Microsoft word. There have been many times when what I am looking for is not available online or in workbooks so I just make my own- very simple to do.
If you would like to try making your own egg-shell geodes check out:

I will add that we did one experiment with Epsom salt and another with sugar. It will be about a day or two before we see the results.

We spent the afternoon working on Spelling, Reading, and Math- we included division with jellybeans in addition to our regular book lesson. That is always a hit!
I bought 2 bags of jelly beans, 1 for the math lessons and another to fill a gumball machine . They were able to have one when they finished their lesson |
The kids met with my husband after he came home from work for a music lesson. A " Musical Easter Egg Hunt" to be exact. It focused on Dynamics. For example Piano, Mezzo Piano, Mezzo Forte, and Forte. You can find out how to do this here:
